Le collégien en difficulté : un constat local et des propositions d'aide individualisée

2003

For some years now, the management of pupil diversity has been the subject of considerable debate, both at the level of the education system and within separate establishments. The principal questions concern the actions to be implemented to allow all pupils to acquire a common base of knowledge and skills during the four years of lower secondary education. Numerous systems have been developed in recent years: remedial teaching, differentiated pedagogy, individual support, reorganisation of timetables, the grouping of pupils, diversified careers, etc., but tangible results have not always been observed. A worrying percentage of pupils still enter lower secondary education with serious learn…

Evaluation of a public policy for combating exclusions : the case of an "insertion" class in the final year of junior secondary school

2005

Since 1975, the expression "single college" is regularly evoked to describe the first cycle of secondary education in France. However, since 1992, classes named "third of insertion", neither dedicated to general education, nor assimilable to those with adapted teaching have been functioning for mailing pupils. At the cross-roads of political, historical, economic and social problems, this study tries to articulate each one of these fields, with the student body, placed at the centre of these questions, being both from an underprivileged social category and having experienced school failure. The analysis which follows demands simultaneously research on the concept of "insertion", the name of…

La "atención a la diversidad" como oportunidad. La perspectiva del proyecto Gea-Clío.

2019

A music educational daily program to develop cognitive abilities among pre-school children: a way to prevent academic failure?

2011

The idea that "music makes you smarter" and promotes verbal skills (Ho et al., 2003; Forgeard and al. 2000), spatiotemporal capacities (Rauscher and Zupan 2000) or even the QI (Schellenberg 2006) has received attention from general public and researchers. In this study we examined the effects of music training on pre-school and school performance of kindergarten children, in particular the early writing skills. One main question is investigated: what are the benefits of a specific music program for the cognitive abilities development on preschooler children (age 5)? Is it a way to prevent academic failure? We test this hypothesis with a large sample of 487 French preschoolers split up into …

Explicit Oral Narrative Intervention for Students with Williams Syndrome

2018

Narrative skills play a crucial role in organizing experience, facilitating social interaction and building academic discourse and literacy. They are at the interface of cognitive, social, and linguistic abilities related to school engagement. Despite their relative strengths in social and grammatical skills, students with Williams syndrome (WS) do not show parallel cognitive and pragmatic performance in narrative generation tasks. The aim of the present study was to assess retelling of a TV cartoon tale and the effect of an individualized explicit instruction of the narrative structure. Participants included eight students with WS who attended different special education levels. Narratives…

Factors determining pedagogic efficiency of secondary: school critical analysis of academic failure in Burkina Faso

2007

The increase in the rate of school counter-performance raises nowadays, the necessity to apprehend the mechanisms from which this failure stems and is cared for. The collected data revealed the content and worrying side of the academic failure at secondary schools level. The econometric tests have allowed identifying the fundamental role of social background and the initial stage through the type of institution as an explanation to the mass failure, the feeble congruency between the different evaluations during the schooling process, as well as the inefficiency of the school organization through the training of the primary school leavers and the management of secondary schools. Finally, sch…

Do Vulnerable Youth Dream Of Precarious Employment? Decision Making at (In/Ex) clusion Pathways

2015

Does a musical program improve the development of cognitive abilities on kindergarten students: a French experience?

2011

The idea that "music makes you smarter" and promotes both cognitive skills as verbal skills (Ho et al., 2003; Forgeard and al. 2000), spatiotemporal capacities (Rauscher and Zupan 2000), school performances (Wetter et al. 2009) or even boost the IQ (Schellenberg, 2004, 2006) has received attention from researchers and general public. In this study we examined the effects of music practice on pre-school and school performance of kindergarten children, in particular concerning early writing skills. Here, one main question is investigated: what are the benefits of a specific music program in the curriculum for the cognitive abilities development on preschooler children (age 5)?
